Bedhead and Coffee Cup
I made a painting of a girl reading in the morning, and it was a year later, when I found a similar reference photo I had taken of my husband, that I thought about the two as the start of a series. The similarities in the images were many and funny: sitting in a chair, time of day, messy hair, and an oddly placed coffee cup. I also like the pronounced juxtaposition of props and am looking forward to manipulating this theme for more paintings.
"I am well aware,” said Renoir, “that it’s difficult to acknowledge that a painting can be both good and yet full of fun. Those who laugh aren’t taken seriously."
