Holiday Punch
During December I wanted to make time for some quick paintings in between decking the halls and watching movies. I also wanted to stay deep in the mood, so I threw together some holiday still lifes and pulled out small canvases and panels. If I’m lucky, Chicago will get some snow, too, so that I can use my bright blues and purples to paint its shadows.
No matter how hard I try to mitigate the stress that can happen at Christmastime, it always gets me, and then afterward is flat-out depressing. I am aiming to paint the brightness of my winter--from slick shiny bulbs to bright blue skies--to keep my spirits up. Have you ever smiled when looking at a painting? I do when I look at Wayne Thiebaud’s work. He knows that it’s straight-up fun to paint things that make you happy, and this time of year in particular I need that.
All artwork is unframed unless otherwise noted.
